WAVE Dance Center for the Performing Arts NFP
was created with greatness in mind. The goal is for WAVE to serve as a community staple, in the heart of Chicago's, Lincoln Park neighborhood. WAVE was created based on not only the Lincoln Park community's need (to service families and residents), but also to provide a void in the City of Chicago, by becoming the hub of cultural and creative expression, for all ages. We aim to provide Quality dance instruction, provide all with the chance to engage in many dance forms, and serve as the place where a global appreciation and awareness of all cultures in instilled in each student/participant.
The founders' collective love and appreciation for the arts, their community, Lincoln Park, and city, Chicago, has definitively been the foundation for which WAVE was inspired. The city and neighborhood is full of all things cultural and historically significant, from its unique architectural designs, to its historical significance​ such as being host to the World's Fair, in days past. WAVE strives to be the modern, physical representation of what makes Chicago, and its historic neighborhood, Lincoln Park, truly unique.
WAVE firmly believes that classical/technical training is the foundation of all study. All students are encouraged to engage in some form of classical/technical training, if not multiple forms. WAVE also believes in offering students a chance to create and express themselves based on the current/popular culture, as well. Students/participants will have the opportunity to become exposed to world culture, through the engagement/participation in World forms of dance. Health and Wellness are of equal importance, thus WAVE will have dedicated offerings for those who seek ways to improve mental and physical health & wellness. Such styles as Brazilian Capoeira, Tai Chi, Yoga, and Pilates, affords participants to improve mood, balance, focus, agility, and strength. This, in turn, will increase ones capacity to feel good and move better: mind, body, and spirit.
What makes us stand out at WAVE is our ability to consider the WHOLE INDIVIDUAL. We believe in the 'Education of the WHOLE-Child' approach, which is a developmental approach to learning that promotes the development of social-emotional, cognitive, and literacy understandings. This researched-based theory of instruction seeks to ensure that learners are able to learn in a supportive, healthy environment, where students are found to be actively engaged in learning, and have a connectivity to the school, as well as the broader community. This is what the founders believe in. WAVE will become your home, and a sense of connectivity to self, others, and the world, which is of utmost priority and value to us. Once you are a member, participating and engaging in forms of study at WAVE, you become a piece of the fabric that will connect you always! It is our hopes that participants hold WAVE within their hearts forever, and have a pride about having learned, studied, created, and connected through us.
