Two Life-Long Friends

Our story begins as children in a school, in Chicago's Lincoln Park community. Over the years, founders, Tasha N. Robinson and Alexis E. Sharp's friendship has remained the epitome of sisterhood. Rooted in encouragement, appreciation, and love, the two have journeyed together through the years. Their diverse backgrounds and experiences shaped how they see the world, but has only ever strengthened their bond, affording them to forge common believes and understandings along the way. Alexis' world travels, and Tasha's passion for the arts moved for mutual sharing to considering: What do we wish to see most, for others, that was so beneficial to our growth, as individuals, and as friends...and all roads began to lead to WAVE. Coming up with the idea to have center for children, families, and residents in Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood, went from being a "cool" idea, to one that the two quickly saw as not only practical, but also truly able to be brought into fruition.

One Love

Founder, Amaris Miranda, though not a Chicago Native, is a multifaceted woman of all things Arts. Founder Tasha N. Robinson, and Amaris Miranda met as teachers, for Chicago Public Schools, where Tasha taught High School English Literature, and Amaris taught High School Studio Art. The two quickly became the best of friends, and art was the center of this bond. Amaris' unique contribution to the birth of WAVE has helped to push the dream forward. A Native of New Mexico, and World Traveler, Amaris brings a wealth of vision, burst of personality, and host of creative ideas to the table. It is her richly unique experiences and knowledge that will continue to help drive the vision of WAVE forward.

One Community

Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood is not only historic, but also full of fun and entertainment. Founders, Tasha and Alexis were born, and raised in the heart of this community. As children, they were able to engage in all types of activities, from summer camp, to dance, to music instruction and more. Lincoln Park has always prided itself on its family-friendly persona. The founders seek to create a place where children, families, and residents can foster their love and appreciation for such a community, because the benefits are life offering. Lincoln Park is full of culture, historical, and modern richness. Once you have visited, you will quickly learn why it will remain in the collective hearts of all.

Our Future

Co-Founder, Ava C. Winfrey, daughter of founder, Tasha N. Robinson, has been a student of the art of dance, since age 3 1/2. Although currently a student in High School, Ava's long history, as a student of dance, has lent itself to the development of WAVE Dance Center for the Performing Arts NFP. She has been instrumental in shaping the direction of WAVE, contributing to the structure and vision of how WAVE should be instituted. It is because of her engagement in the dance world that all things WAVE was made possible. Ava will serve as the foundation and model for youth leadership, a core foundational belief that will be a fundamental component of WAVE's organization, to come.
